Pak vs Aus: Pakistan suffer major blow ahead of Melbourne Test

• Khurram complained of discomfort in his left side after first Test.

MELBOURNE: In a massive blow to Pakistan ahead of the second Test against Australia, fast bowler Khurram Shahzad has suffered an injury jeopardising the team's prospects for the series.

According to a statement issued by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Wednesday, Khurram complained of discomfort in his left side during the first Test which took place in Perth. 

"Following his complaint, after the Test match, Khurram was sent for an MRI scan," said the PCB, adding that further details will be shared in due course after the medical panel assesses the MRI reports.

The second Test is scheduled to be played at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) from December 26-30. 

The Green Shirts were dismissed for a mere 89 runs in the first Test during their chase of a 450-run target. 

Pakistan's improbable attempt to claim their first Test win in Australia since 1995 was shattered by the home team's formidable pace attack, swiftly concluding the game within four days.

In pursuit of 450 for victory, the visitors surrendered meekly with Lyon claiming 2-18. Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood also secured three wickets each.

Australia declared on the fourth day at 233-5 after Pakistan were dismissed for 271 in their first innings, responding to the hosts' 487.
