A massive whale, possibly a fin whale, has become stranded on the New South Wales (NSW) north coast, creating a rescue mission involving National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) rangers and dedicated volunteers.
The enormous cetacean, suspected to be a fin whale, one of the largest whale species, is stuck at Minnie Water, located approximately 60 kilometers north of Coffs Harbour.
NPWS officials expressed concern due to the sheer size of the whale, admitting uncertainty about its chances of being saved.
Ashley Ryan, the President of the Organisation for the Rescue and Research of Cetaceans in Australia (ORRCA), stressed the urgency of the situation, calling for veterinary experts to evaluate the whale's condition.
The whale measures around 16 meters in length and weighs a staggering estimated 25 tonnes, prompting a swift response from wildlife volunteers and experts eager to assist.
Ryan stressed the need to prioritise the whale's welfare during the assessment process while ensuring the safety of everyone involved in the rescue efforts.
