Dodgers' new star Shohei Ohtani's gifts teammate a Porsche for jersey number 17

Shohei Ohtani, the newly acquired Dodgers superstar, showcased his generosity by surprising teammate Joe Kelly with a lavish gift in exchange for the No. 17 jersey. 

Kelly willingly handed over his jersey number to Ohtani, and in response, Ohtani presented Kelly with the keys to a brand-new Porsche.

The heartwarming exchange was shared by Ashley Kelly, Joe's wife, on Instagram. In a video posted on Saturday night, Ashley opens the front door to reveal the luxurious car awaiting them in the driveway. A man at the door informs Ashley, "It's yours, from Shohei. He wanted to gift you a Porsche."

Ashley Kelly had previously engaged in a creative #Ohtake17 campaign to court Ohtani during the Dodgers' pursuit of the Japanese sensation in free agency. The light-hearted campaign included videos of Ashley tossing heaps of No. 17 Kelly Dodgers gear around their front yard in excitement.

When asked about giving up his jersey number, Joe Kelly responded humorously, stating, "I wasn't going to give it up to just anybody. If Shohei keeps performing, he'll be a future Hall of Famer, and I'll be able to have my number retired. That's the closest I'll get to the Hall of Fame."

As for the details of what he wanted in return for the jersey number, Kelly cheekily commented, "Oh, there's a list, but no comment." While it remains unclear if the Porsche was on that list, Ohtani's gesture underscores his generosity, especially coming on the heels of signing a staggering $700 million contract.
