KARACHI: Mobile phone and PTCL wireless services have been suspended in Karachi and Quetta from 1 pm Friday till midnight following the announcement by Interior Minister Rehman Malik.
Mobile services will also be suspended in Sector G9 of the federal capital on Friday from 3 pm to 6 pm.
Speaking to the media in Islamabad, Malik said mobile phone jammers would also be placed on the route of Muharram processions across the country, while garbage cans would be removed from Karachi in light of terror threats.
According to sources, mobile phone services are also expected to be suspended in Hyderabad.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the provincial government decided to suspend mobile phone services in six districts on the 9th and 10th of Muharram-ul-Haram.
According to sources in the provincial home ministry, the mobile service will remain suspended in the six districts which have been declared sensitive. These included Peshawar, Kohat, Mansehra, Haripur, Tank and Dera Ismail Khan.
As per the decision, mobile phone services would remain cut from 6 am on Muharram 9 to 11 pm on Muharram 10.
The service will remain suspended in Quetta districts as well on Muharram 9 and 10.
