ISLAMABAD: Complete security will be provided to senior anchor person Hamid Mir and a thorough investigation of the terror attempt on his life will be carried out by the police, said Interior Minister Rehman Malik while speaking to the media on Monday.
Standing alongside Hamid Mir, Malik said two journalists will be including in the fact finding committee under the chair of the magistrate to probe the incident.
Malik further added that the bomb plated under Mir’s car was powerful enough to damage a building and if exploded it could have completely destroyed the car.
Assuring Hamid Mir that he was with him in this time of need, Malik announced a Rs 50 million reward for anyone who can give information regarding the terror attempt on the senior journalist’s life.
Meanwhile, Hamid Mir said that he had been informed about a threat to his life by Rehman Malik and others several times, however it was troublesome to travel with a security protocol, adding that he had agreed to place one security guard at his home and another at his work earlier.
Appreciating the prompt response from authorities, Hamid Mir also hailed the efforts of the bomb disposal squad for successfully defusing the bomb.
Thanking Malik for his efforts, Hamid Mir requested Rehman Malik to look into the deaths occurring in Balochistan, to which Malik replied that not even one person was killed in Balochistan and Karachi during the hours mobile phones were suspended in the regions. Malik further told that he had hundred percent proof that foreign elements were trying to disrupt peace in Balochistan.
Speaking about how to improve the law and order situation, Malik said he will be introducing a new system of a neighborhood watch soon.
