In a bid to bring joy, happiness, and hope to the children living with their mothers behind bars in Central Jail Karachi, a social organisation, in collaboration with the jail administration held a “fun festival” in prison.
Living with their mothers without committing any crime, even tiny bits of happiness become memorable moments in their lives.
The festival comprised magic, puppet shows, art activities, jumping castles, and other games. The children were also given gifts during the event.
Besides other noted personalities, Sindh Inspector General (IG) Prisons Syed Munawar Shah’s wife Sakina Munawar, and Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Sheba Shah attended the event to share joys with the children.
Speaking on the occasion, DIG Shah said: “We have organised a great event today to bring smiles on the faces of these children. We often hold these types of activities for the children and even take them out of the prison for entertainment.”
She said that currently, there were 160 prisoners, adding that the jail has a capacity of 260 inmates. There were 34 children living with their mothers in the jail, the police officer said, adding that a school was also set up inside the jail premises. In the evening, there is also an arrangement for them to play, she added.
On her part, IG prisons’ wife Sakina Munawar said when these children come to the prison, they realise that a cage is a cage even if it is made up of gold.
“Seeing them happy makes me feel very good today,” she added.
