COLOMBO: New Zealand were 59-2 in their second innings at lunch for an overall lead of 227 on the fourth day of the second and final Test against Sri Lanka at the P. Sara Oval in Colombo on Wednesday.

Kane Williamson was unbeaten on 11 at the break with skipper Ross Taylor one not out.

Sri Lanka were earlier bowled out for 244 in their first innings in reply to New Zealand's 412, with Thilan Samaraweera top-scoring with 76. Fast bowlers Tim Southee bagged five wickets and Trent Boult four for New Zealand.

The hosts lead the series 1-0 following their 10-wicket win in the opening Test in Galle.
