Al-Nassr's planned tour of China has been abruptly cancelled due to a muscular injury sidelining Cristiano Ronaldo, preventing him from participating in scheduled matches against Shanghai Shenhua and Zheijang, Goal reported.
The decision to postpone these friendly games has been made with the intent to reschedule them at a later date.
Ronaldo, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner, expressed his sentiments on the unfortunate turn of events, acknowledging the disappointment of fans and emphasising his longstanding connection with China: “I have played 22 years in football and I am a player that doesn’t have too many injuries. So I’m really sad because Al-Nassr and myself have come to China to enjoy the tour. I have been coming to China since 2003/2004, so I feel at home here – my second home.”
Despite the setback, Ronaldo reassured fans that the tour has not been cancelled entirely, and he remains committed to returning to China: “Don’t be sad because I am sad and I hope you understand the circumstances of a football player.”
The injury might sideline Ronaldo for a couple of weeks, potentially affecting his participation in the Riyadh Cup against Inter Miami, where he could miss a reunion with long-time rival Lionel Messi.
Al-Nassr, amidst their mid-season break, is adjusting their plans and aims to face Messi's Inter Miami on February 1, followed by a clash with Al-Hilal a week later, and a return to competitive action in the AFC Champions League against Al Feiha on February 14.
