Kasur victims boycott JIT formed to probe scandal

KASUR: Victims of the Kasur video scandal have announced they will be boycotting the probe being conducted by the Joint Investigation Team (JIT).

Speaking at a press conference the lawyer of the victims said police wanted to harass his clients by registering kidnapping and murder cases against them.

According to the victims lawyers his clients’ demands were not being heard and if the cases against them were dismissed they would appear before the JIT.

If things remain the same despite the boycott there would be a march from Hussain Khanwala to Islamabad, the lawyer said.

Investigations into the massive child abuse scandal, termed the biggest in the country's history, reveal that around 400 videos were made of 280 minor victims by the organised gang of over 25 criminals in Hussain Khanwala village of Kasur.

Amid mounting calls for justice from protesting families, media and civil society, the Punjab government formed a five-member JIT headed by Deputy Inspector-General (DIG) Abu Bakr Khuda Baksh to investigate the case and present its report within two weeks.

The investigation team also includes Superintendent of Police (SP) Khalid Bashir Cheema and Deputy SP Liaqauat Ali, as well as two officers of intelligence agencies.
