Pakistan's star batter and Peshawar Zalmi captain Babar Azam has credited his mother for bringing good luck over the century he made against Islamabad United during the ninth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

Babar's remarks come as Peshawar triumphed over Islamabad — their third straight win in the tournament — by eight runs in the 13th match of the PSL courtesy of his 11th T20 century coupled with Arif Yaqoob's five-wicket haul.

Expressing his views in the post-match ceremony, the right-hand batter said: "My mother came [to watch] for the first time. She's very happy. She enjoyed it. She always watches at home but she proved to be [a source of] good luck for me. She came to watch the match and I scored a hundred."

A day earlier, Peshawar succeeded in restricting Islamabad to 193 at the loss of nine wickets after posting a 202-run target in the first innings.

Islamabad appeared poised for victory following a remarkable fourth-wicket partnership between Colin Munro and Azam Khan, but Yaqoob's four-wicket haul in the 19th over swung the momentum back in Peshawar's favour.

This marks the first instance in PSL history where a bowler has claimed four wickets in a single over, with Yaqoob concluding with figures of 5 for 27.
