ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Religious Affairs, Khurshid Shah Tuesday said that the government would step aside for the caretaker setup exactly by the end of its term, Geo News reported.
“We will not even extend the term of our government, which ends on March 16, 2013, even by an hour”, Shah said during Geo TV program “Capital Talk.”
In the same breath the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader also divulged that the government could also let the caretaker setup take charge about 10-20 days earlier.
“We might even cut the term short by a couple or more weeks”, said he.
To a question, Shah said there were no two policies on the schedule of general elections.
“Our policy is clear on it. The elections will not hit the snags. No delays would be allowed in this regard”, Khurshid said.
Responding to another question, the minister rejected Chairman National Accountability Bureau, Adm (Retd) Fasih Bukhari’s statement that Pakistan suffered corruption worth Rs8bn every day.
“His statement disillusioned me. I had a very high opinion about him. There cannot be a misstatement worse than this”, Khurshid said.
