LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Shandana Gulzar has been summoned by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) for making defamatory remarks against Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, The News reported Sunday.
Gulzar has been summoned by the FIA's Cyber Crime Circle in Lahore on March 14 over allegations of defamatory remarks against the state and government figures and allegedly inciting people to rebellion through her social media posts.
The PTI leader stands accused of implicating CM Maryam in an audio leak scandal, referring to a deceased PTI worker, Zille Shah.
These accusations against Gulzar were lodged by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) activist Shoaib Mirza, who alleged her involvement in defamatory activities against government officials and institutions.
The FIA acknowledged these allegations and will question Gulzar for questioning to conduct further inquiries into the matter.
Earlier, Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari had also commented on the case, saying that safeguarding the sanctity of the assembly was the duty of every member.
“Shandana Gulzar is insulting Pakistan. These are the actions of PTI’s political vultures,” she remarked while addressing the media persons.
Bokhari emphasised that the PTI had a history of politicising tragic events and demanded an end to such actions. She further demanded evidence supporting Shandana’s allegations against CM Maryam.
“An application for the registration of an FIR against Shandana Gulzar has been submitted. Now, neither the woman card nor the political card will be allowed to be played,” she explained.
The minister demanded that Gulzar present evidence of the alleged audio implicating Maryam.
