United States President Joe Biden has been attacked multiple times over his old age, despite his claims that the doctors during his annual medical examination said that he "looked too young".
While his comment came as a joke, the latest ad for Biden's re-election campaign has raised some questions about whether the 81-year-old thinks he is old or not, CBS News reported.
In the ad released Saturday at the informal beginning of the general election campaign, Biden argues that he knows he's old, but it's his experience that matters.
"Look I'm not a young guy. That's no secret," he says in the ad, addressing the camera. "But here's the deal, I understand how to get things done for the American people."
Biden then proceeds to discuss his pandemic recovery, climate change, and lowering drug prices before attacking his rival and former president Donald Trump.
"Donald Trump believes the job of the president is to take care of Donald Trump," Biden says in the ad. "I believe the job of the president is to fight for you, the American people. And that's what I'm doing."
Biden, the oldest sitting US president, faces political vulnerability due to his age and capabilities.
A February CBS News poll showed that only 32% believed Biden has the cognitive and mental health to serve as president, compared to 49% for Trump.
At the end, a voice is heard off camera asking for another taken after which Biden quips: "Look, I'm very young, energetic and handsome — what the hell am I doing this for."
The ad is part of a recently announced $30 million battleground state ad buy.
