Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg once again took a jab at the Apple Vision Pro comparing it with the "better" Meta Quest 3 in a discussion with Mosaic Ventures partner Benedict Evans on Threads.
Evans on Friday posted on Threads, calling out the "tradeoffs" in Apple's VR headset that he thinks, make its $3,500 product worse than Meta's $500 competitor, Quest, Business Insider reported.
He wrote: "There are a lot of limitations to the Vision Pro, but I am genuinely baffled by Meta VR engineers claiming it's 'basically just the same thing' as the Quest.
"Apple is selling pretty much the device Meta wants to reach in 3-5 years. The Quest is selling at the price Apple wants to reach in 3-5 years."
In a response to Evans' post, Zuckerberg clarified his company's claims about their product.
"I don't think we're saying the devices are the same," the tech billionaire replied. "We're saying Quest is better.
"If our devices weigh as much as theirs in 3-5 years, or have the motion blur theirs has, or the lack of precision inputs, etc, then that means we'll have regressed significantly."
Although Zuckerberg acknowledged that Apple's device has higher resolution but he argued that the company "made many other product tradeoffs" which makes their device worse in "most ways".
"That's not what we aspire to," Zuckerberg added.
Apple has sold over 200,000 Vision Pro units since its pre-order launch, surpassing Meta's 20 million Quest units sold between 2019 and February of last year.
Meta's Reality Labs division reached $1 billion in revenue for the first time in fourth-quarter financials in 2023, attributed to a "strong holiday season" for Quest.
The latest criticism from Zuckerberg comes days after he reviewed the product on Instagram on everything from price to specifications.
He also critiqued it at a company meeting, telling employees that Apple's vision of a VR headset was not the one he wanted.
