Screeching brakes and horns honking as a man goes on his knees to ask for his woman’s love in a bustling city is a familiar sight when it comes to movies; however, something similar happened in real life when India’s business tycoon Mukesh Ambani proposed to Nita Ambani, his wife.

The timeless love story of Asia’s richest man Mukesh Ambani and Nita Ambani unraveled decades ago on a busy road in Mumbai and still remains to be an aspiration for many, reported Tribune India.

Mukesh Ambani recently revealed how he asked for Nita Ambani’s hand while recalling the romantic proposal in the midst of cars and horns. He said that his lady love Nita was “really his first girl” and he was all decided to make her his life partner only after a few meetings.

Mukesh said that he had taken Nita on a drive and while moving through the traffic of Peddar Road, Mumbai, he seized the opportunity and popped the question to Nita in the car.

At first, it surprised Nita, as expected of any girl in such a situation but then she accepted.

However, their love story wasn’t merely about luck by chance.

Nita, a professional Bharatanatyam dancer, was first spotted by Mukesh Ambani’s father Dhirubhai Ambani during one of her performances, who liked her as a match for his elder son Anil.

However, a series of meetings gave Nita a chance to know Mukesh’s humility and she was left amazed.

Same was the case with Mukesh, who was impressed with Nita’s beauty and nature, which led him to ask for her hand in marriage.

Though Nita, who then made a living as a professional dance instructor in a small school, had her conditions and had wished for continuing her profession even after marriage, which the Ambanis obligingly granted.

Later, Nita started working within the Reliance Group as the chairperson and founder of the Reliance Foundation and Dhirubhai Ambani International School, and as a director of Reliance Industries.
