Former US president and Republican runner for the White House Donald Trump has reportedly issued controversial remarks about one of the most infamous personalities in history Adolf Hitler.

Donald Trump — who is enmeshed in his four criminal indictments — remains in the headlines for his remarks about authoritarian leaders of the contemporary world.

According to a CNN report citing sources, the 77-year-old businessman termed Hungarian leader Viktor Orbán "fantastic". Chinese leader Xi Jinping "brilliant", and North Korea’s Kim Jong Un "an OK guy".

The businessman-turned-politician continued to admire authoritarians in his campaigns as in a town hall by Fox News in July 2023, Trump called Xi a brilliant guy.

He also expressed similar feelings for Vladimir Putin calling him smarter than President Joe Biden.

But what alarmed people was his remarks about Adolf Hitler in which he allegedly said that the German leader "did some good things," the CNN report said.

"He thought [Vladimir] Putin was an OK guy and Kim [Jong Un] was an OK guy — that we had pushed North Korea into a corner," a former chief of staff during Trump's retired General John Kelly was quoted as saying.

Talking about Hitler, Kelly recalled Trump as saying: "He said, ‘Well, but Hitler did some good things.’ I said, ‘Well, what?’ And he said, ‘Well, [Hitler] rebuilt the economy.’ But what did he do with that rebuilt economy? He turned it against his own people and against the world. And I said, ‘Sir, you can never say anything good about the guy. Nothing,’" Kelly recounted. "I mean, Mussolini was a great guy in comparison."

"It’s pretty hard to believe he missed the Holocaust, though, and pretty hard to understand how he missed the 400,000 American GIs that were killed in the European theater."

General Kelly also noted that Trump also admired Hitler maintaining the loyalty of his officers unlike him.

"He truly believed, when he brought us generals in, that we would be loyal — that we would do anything he wanted us to do," General Kelly stated.

A spokesperson for Trump in 2021 rejected accusations of him praising Hitler.

Allies of the former president believe Trump’s election to the White House would mark a shift change in US policies toward Nato and other international commitments including Ukraine.
