The Total Solar Eclipse is almost here and people are scrambling to get their eclipse glasses as without them, they can't witness the celestial event.

A person cannot look directly at the sun on April 8 as it can harm their eyes — or worst case scenario, cause permanent damage.

You need special eclipse glasses for safe viewing of the total solar eclipse. Some locations offer them while supplies last, while others bundle them with special purchases. Eclipse glasses are still up for grabs at various spots across metro Phoenix.

Public libraries in Metro Phoenix have received five million glasses thanks to the Space Science Institute. These metro Phoenix libraries are on the institute's list:

Phoenix Public Library, which has solar eclipse events at eight of its branches.

- GateWay Community College Library.

- Scottsdale Public Library.

- Mesa Public Library.

- Chandler Public Library.

- Apache Junction Public Library.

- Fort McDowell Tribal Library.

- Ed Robson Library in Sun Lakes.

- Northwest Regional Library in Surprise.

- White Tank Library in Waddell.

- Litchfield Park Library.

- Peoria Public Library.

- Heroes Regional Park Library in Glendale.

The Arizona Science Center is another place to consider. They're hosting a free eclipse viewing party from 9am to 1pm on the day of the eclipse, and attendees will receive free eclipse glasses.

Warby Parker, the eyeglass retailer, is also giving away free eclipse glasses at their four locations in metro Phoenix: Scottsdale Fashion Square, Scottsdale Quarter, Chandler Fashion Center, and SanTan Village. But hurry, it's while supplies last, with a limit of two per person.

For those with a sweet tooth, Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams is offering free eclipse glasses with the purchase of its Punk Stargonaut Collection, a set of five space-inspired ice cream flavors. The promotion is available online and at their Old Town Scottsdale location starting April 4.

Lastly, Sonic Drive-In has a special offer. With every purchase of their limited edition Blackout Slush Float, customers will receive a free pair of eclipse glasses.

But remember, it's while supplies last. So, gear up and get ready to witness the celestial spectacle safely.
