Zayn Malik recently talked about the inspiration behind his upcoming music and his deep connection with his hometown of Bradford.

According to Big Issue report, the former One Direction singer discussed his latest single, What I Am, from upcoming album, Room Under The Stairs, scheduled to release in May.

"I’m reflecting on the way that I approach situations rather than necessarily a correlation to what my original identity is. It’s just growth as a human being. I’m a man, you know; that’s what I’m talking about," he said.

Recalling his early life, Malik spoke about his decision not to spend his entire life in Bradford, stating, "I wanted to do something unique and worthwhile."

Moreover, Malik shared how his upbringing in Bradford has influenced his personality even after a decade of living in United States.

The Pillow Talk hitmaker said, "Now as a 31-year-old man, after living in America for ten years, I’ve definitely come to terms with the fact that I’m a very Northern man, which heavily influences my personality and decision-making on a daily basis."

Despite his global fame, Malik has chosen a quieter life on a farm in Pennsylvania, where he raises his daughter, Khai, with his ex, Gigi Hadid.
