Marisa Abela has dropped a hint on how she embodied Amy Winehouse for a new biopic Back to Black.
While speaking to People at the world premiere of her musical, the 27-years old actress stated that she can’t wait for the audience to see the biopic.
“I’m really excited”, Abela noted.
However, while discussing the portrayal of the musical powerhouse she admitted to being fully immersed in the character, attributing it to her ‘job’.
“It doesn't feel like it's me singing”, she confessed before adding, “That's my job as an actor to inhabit her in every corner of her life”.
Abela also acknowledged her responsibility as an actor to “be able to tell [her] story”, hence stepping into her shoes.
The Barbie actress also dubbed the You Know I’m No Good singer ‘authentic’ and the ‘most incredible poet’ as she got to learn more about the jazz singer.
Back to Black will focus on Winehouse’s early life as she rose to fame with the release of her hit album of the same name.
Starring alongside Jack O’Connell, under the direction of Sam Taylor-Johnson, the film is set to hit the theatres on May 17.
