Dickey Betts, guitarist for the Allman Brothers Band and a singer-songwriter passed away at the age of 80.
PEOPLE magazine just confirmed from the artist's manager, David Spero, that the cause of Dickey Bett’s death was cancer and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
The Allman Brothers Band also revealed in a statement that his death came "following a period of declining health."
The artist’s family tool to Dickey’s official Instagram account on Thursday, April 18, 2024, announcing the tragic demise of the Melissa crooner.
"It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that the Betts family announce the peaceful passing of Forrest Richard 'Dickey' Betts (December 12, 1943 - April 18, 2024) at the age of 80 years old," the caption began.
Under a throwback photo of Dickey, the note further added, "The legendary performer, songwriter, bandleader and family patriarch passed away earlier today at his home in Osprey, Fla., surrounded by his family."
"Dickey was larger than life, and his loss will be felt world-wide. At this difficult time, the family asks for prayers and respect for their privacy in the coming days. More information will be forthcoming at the appropriate time," the tribute concluded.
