A startling incident unfolded on the streets of Central London this week that left bystanders scratching their heads.

Earlier this week, people witnessed two riderless horses galloping through the streets — one white whose hoofs and chests were covered with blood, and another black one.

Minutes later, the clock on Elizabeth Tower, popularly known as Big Ben, had stopped at 9am with its bongs not ringing out as normal.

These events led some people to think they were in a scene from a movie.

However, these events that seemed ominous were simply two coincidences that happened to occur at the same time in the same part of the city.

According to Metro UK, the horses from the Household Cavalry, named Vida and Quaker, had been spooked by noise from a building site close to the Buckingham Palace.

The pair are in a "relatively serious condition" and have undergone surgery, the Army later said.

Meanwhile, the clock issue was soon fixed by a team of engineers and by 10:15am, the clock showed the correct time and bonged as usual.

However, the reports of both situations being handled did not stop people from freaking out on social media.

In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, a user wrote: "Big Ben has stopped and there are blood covered horses running through the streets of London. Maybe someone should check on the ravens in the Tower because this feels a LOT like a season finale."

Another added: "This is 100% something a One Eyed Witch would warn as a sign of some disaster about to happen."
