GUJRANWALA: Young doctors assaulted the Medical Superintendent (MS) and other seniors at the DHQ hospital here on Wednesday.
Patients were waiting at the hospital when suddenly young doctors barged into the Medical Superintendant's office chanting slogans. MS Anwar Amanullah was severely beaten and other doctors who tried to intervene were also assaulted.
Following the assault, medical activities were suspended, which resulted in the death of a patient.
Members of the media were also subjected to assault by the young doctors for media coverage of the incident.
The police arrived at the hospital and arrested three including the president of the Young Doctors Association (YDA) Kashif Bilal. As a response to the arrests, young doctors have stopped work in OPDs of government hospitals across the Punjab, causing difficulties to the patients.
A statement released by the Punjab Health Department said strict action would be taken against those involved in the assault on the MS and other senior doctors.
The young doctors are seeking action against the hospital administration and removal of the MS.
