Benedict Cumberbatch bewitches audience in first trailer for ‘Eric’

Benedict Cumberbatch is set to fascinate audience with the portrayal of a distressed father in his upcoming mini-series Eric.

In the latest trailer released by Netflix, the actor appears distraught and guilty over his son Edgar’s disappearance en route to school.

“Letting him walk to school, is that a decision you regret”, a reporter asked in the trailer.

However, the series takes an unsettling turn when the Sherlock actor begins to rely on his work in the television show Good Day Sunshine as a puppeteer.

Cumberbatch's character clings to a blue monster puppet, Eric and is convinced that if he brings this drawing to life, “Edgar will come home” although he becomes ‘increasingly volatile’ in the process.

“As Vincent’s progressively destructive behavior alienates his family, his work colleagues, and the detectives trying to help him, it’s Eric, a delusion of necessity, who becomes his only ally in the pursuit to bring his son home”, per the official synopsis.

The 47-year-old will portray Vincent in the limited series opposite Gaby Hoffmann as Casie and Ivan Morris Howe as Edgar as well as McKinley Belcher III as lead detective Ledroit.

Helmed by Lucy Forbes, the project is scheduled to debut on May 30, 2024.
