The United States' National Security Agency (NSA) has advised people to adopt a practice of turning their phones off and back on once a week.

This recommendation aims to protect smartphones from a range of security threats, including phishing, malware, and spyware.

According to the NSA, a single successful cyber attack can compromise a user's data and even lead to identity theft, ZDNET reported.

In a "Mobile Device Best Practices" report, the NSA has outlined various tips to help users safeguard their mobile devices from potential attacks.

According to the NSA, one of the simplest yet effective methods is to power off and then power on your phone at least once a week.

This practice can make it more challenging for hackers to steal information from the device, although the agency emphasises that it may not always prevent an attack.

The report also highlighted other spearphishing attacks can target mobile devices.

These threats may impact your devices through installation of malicious apps, interception of traffic by malicious Wi-Fi networks, monitoring of audio and video conversations by spyware and, unauthorised collection of calling or texting data by hackers with remote access to the device.

Even brief physical access to a phone can lead to the installation of malware or spyware.
