Kamal Siddiqi is the first Pakistani journalist to receive award by East-West Center

Senior Pakistani journalist and media analyst Kamal Siddiqi Monday received the prestigious Journalists Courage and Impact Award at the East-West Media Conference in Manila, Philippines.

He is first Pakistani journalist to receive this award by the East-West Center.

Siddiqi, who has over 26 years of experience in journalism and media training, was among the award's seven recipients who have been honoured for their dedication to journalism and press freedom, often in difficult circumstances.

The veteran journalist's insightful writing and commitment to truth have educated and inspired countless readers, setting high standards in journalism.

The citation to honour him highlighted his work in the print, digital and broadcast media and his contribution to excellence through media education and training.

His work in regional networking of journalists and to media freedom were also mentioned.

Siddiqi is currently working as a senior programme officer at the Media Development Investment Fund (MDIF) with focus on South Asia. He was earlier working as director news at a private new channel in Pakistan.

Siddiqi has also served as the director of the Center for Excellence in Journalism at the Institute of Business Administration in Karachi. Prior to this role, the journalist was an editor of an English daily in Pakistan where he oversaw the outlet's three print and one digital edition from 2009 to 2016.

Siddiqi was also the president of the East-West Center Alumni Association Karachi chapter.
