Despite rain in Karachi's outskirts, 'feels like' temperature touches 53°C

KARACHI: Outskirts of the port city witnessed rain on Thursday, as the majority of the metropolis' parts remain scorching under the sun with "feels like" temperature reaching 53°C.

The city's areas where downpour was recorded include Malir, Gadap, Super Highway and surrounding areas. Thunderclouds were seen in the northeast part of Karachi.

Meanwhile, the city remains gripped by extremely hot and humid weather with the mercury touching 40°C at 2pm, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

"Heat intensity is being felt up to 53°C. The percentage of humidity in the air is 47%," said the Met Office.

Earlier today, PMD had forecast rains in the metropolis from today, as the possibility of rain in the city's suburbs, along with other areas, in the afternoon or evening today was indicated.

On the other hand, the spokesperson of the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) reported the first death from heatstroke at the hospital.

"One person died last night due to heat stroke," said the spokesperson.

According to the spokesperson, at least 31 cases of heatstroke have been reported in the hospital from Wednesday till today.
