Mobile phone services had been suspended by Interior Minister Rehman Malik due to security threats. According to Malik, all stakeholders had been consulted over the law and order situation in Karachi and arrangements were being made to improve police patrolling.
Malik added that terrorists were trying to destablise the country by spreading unrest.
