Karachi sizzles as 'feels like' temperature reaches 56°C

KARACHI: The residents of the metropolis on Wednesday were left sweltering in scorching heat with the city's mercury reaching 40.5°C with feels like temperature touching 56°C.

Stressing that the temperature is likely to decrease from tomorrow, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has advised the public to exercise caution when going outside owing to adverse weather conditions.

According to the Met Office, maximum temperature was recorded at 40.5°C in the metropolis from 2pm to 3pm which felt like 56°C as sea breezes came to a halt while humidity level was 66% at 5pm.

The current temperature was 36.5°C and humidity at 66% in Karachi while the feel-like temperature was 53°C, it added.

The weather forecast department predicted that sea breezes would be started in Karachi from Thursday evening which would slightly bring down the mercury to 36°C to 38°C.

Earlier, it also said that the city's maximum temperature is expected to go up to 41°C with chances of dust-thunderstorms and light rain in a few places today.

With the hot and humid forecast for the next two days in the city, the PMD has said that there are chances of isolated thunderstorms and rain from Thursday to Friday in Karachi.

Earlier, the Met Office also said that the sea breeze has come to a halt in the metropolis which is experiencing light winds from the northwest.

The sea breeze, however, is expected to be restored till tomorrow evening, it added.

Meanwhile, several other areas in Sindh, namely Tharparker, Umerkot, Badin, Mirpurkhas, Sanghar, Thatta, Sujawal and Jamshoro districts are expected to receive moderate to heavy rainfall from today till July 20.

Additionally, Hyderabad, TM Khan, TA Yar, Mitiari, Dadu, Kambar Shahdadkot, Larkana, Kashmore, Shikarpur, Jacobabad, Ghotki, Sukkur, Khairpur, Nausharo Feroze and Shaheed Benazirabad districts are also likely to witness moderate to heavy rain with a thunderstorm during the same time period.
