KARACHI: The police on Friday arrested a group of wanted dacoits, who used to loot people withdrawing cash from banks, from Karachi's Landhi area. 

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Korangi Toheed Rehman said the arrested group has confessed to several incidents in different areas of the city. 

Rehman said that the police recovered 18 stolen mobile phones and cash from the group as well as weapons. He added that the group was very active in Shah Latif, Sohrab Goth, Saddar, Sharea Faisal and Korangi. 

The SSP also said that the initial investigation revealed that the suspects also looted dozens of shops. 

"The suspects had robbed the shop of a famous biryani seller in Landhi no 6 and a CCTV footage of them robbing Rs35,000 had also gone viral," said SSP Rehman.

The group also robbed a citizen off Rs170,000 in Shah Faisal on the sixth day of Eid ul Fitr. The suspects also stole Rs300,000 from a person in Quaidabad 1.5 months ago, Rs168,000 in a robbery at general store in Akhtar Colony last month. 

Rehman said that they also committed robberies at Singer Chowrangi and Landhi 89, adding that they used to loot people withdrawing cash from bank as well as shops. 

"One of the suspects, Abid, revealed that he shot a citizen during a robbery in New Karachi area," said the SSP. 

He said that Ali Raza, Zafar Iqbal, Haider, Abdul Rehman, Liaquat and Abid have been arrested while raised are being conducted to arrest two other accomplices.
