Fact-check: Video does not show PTI leader with alcohol

The footage was originally uploaded by an Indian social media user in April

A video clip that has gained significant traction on social media, amassing views upwards of five million, purportedly shows a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Sanam Javaid with a bottle of alcohol.

The claim is false. The video is unrelated to the PTI leader.

Claim

The video, which was initially posted on Facebook on July 27, shows a woman pouring what appears to be alcohol, with the accompanying caption: “This is what happens in Zaman Park. Sanam Javaid is pouring alcohol for women.”

This post has stirred controversy, with the user questioning the character of the women associated with the political party.

The video has been widely shared and liked, with over 3.4 million views, more than 3,700 shares, and over 10,000 likes as of the time of writing. Similar posts have appeared on other social media platforms, including Facebook and X (formerly Twitter), using the same caption.

Fact

Contrary to the claim, the video does not feature Sanam, nor was it filmed in Pakistan.

The footage was originally uploaded by an Indian social media user. A reverse image search and keyword analysis trace the video back to an Instagram upload dated April 14

While the exact location and date of the original footage could not be independently confirmed, the evidence confirms that the video is unrelated to the PTI leader and was not filmed in Pakistan.
