Rizwan Saeed Sheikh assumes responsibilities as Pakistan's new envoy to US

Diplomat says every possible effort should be made to ensure better service delivery to Pakistani community

Rizwan Saeed Sheikh, the new ambassador of Pakistan to the United States, formally assumed the diplomatic responsibilities of his post in Washington on Wednesday, followed by a "busy" day at the office.

According to a press release, officials of the US State Department and officers from the embassy received Rizwan at the airport in the US capital.

As his first engagement on Wednesday, Rizwan held introductory meetings with officers from the embassy and discussed priorities in the context of Pakistan's economic situation.

His busy first day at work also consisted of meetings with heads of various departments who gave him a detailed briefing, followed by a Zoom meeting with the Consul Generals of Pakistan in the US.

Rizwan, who previously served as the deputy chief of Mission at the Pakistan Embassy for a long time, has held diplomatic responsibilities with former ambassadors Jalil Abbas Jilani, Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry, Asad Majeed Khan, and Ali Jahangir Siddiqui.

During his meeting with the embassy's officers, the new Pakistan envoy to the US emphasised the importance of the Pak-US relationship. 

The press release revealed that during the meeting, Rizwan stated that "cementing multifaceted Pak-US relations, strengthening economic ties and enhancing people-to-people linkages" would remain his foremost priorities.

He also highlighted the importance of the Pakistani diaspora in the US, describing them as a valuable asset of the country while also noting their role in serving as a strong bond in the Pak-US relationship. 

He said that every possible effort should be made to ensure better service delivery to the community and stressed the need to pursue result-oriented diplomacy.
