KARACHI: A minor girl was allegedly raped and murdered before being thrown in a garbage dump in Karachi's Saddar area, Geo News reported citing police and hospital officials said on Sunday.

According to the police, the body of the 12-year-old victim was found  stashed in a gunny bag from the garbage dump near Lukcy Star.

The police said that the victim looked like a "destitute girl from her appearance". They further stated that investigation was underway to ascertain the facts related to the case.

Meanwhile, Chief Police Surgeon Dr Summaiya Syed said that the girl’s body was brought to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for medical examination.

Citing the initial post-mortem report, the official said that the girl was subjected to "sexual abuse", while the cause of death will be ascertained after further testing.

Dr Syed further stated that samples had been collected from the victim's body for DNA testing.

Later, the police registered a case at Saddar Police Station on the complaint of victim's mother.

Taking notice of the matter, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah expressed grief and ordered a thorough investigation into the case to bring the culprits to justice.

He directed the police to take stern action against the suspects who commit offences against children, women, elders, and vulnerable sections of society.

He also instructed Sindh Inspector General (IGP) Ghulam Nabi Memon to inform all police stations in the province about the government’s policy on vulnerable sections.
