Fact-check: Viral video claiming to show Khawaja Asif's daughter dancing is false

Social media users are circulating a video clip alleging that the daughter of federal Minister for Defence Khawaja Asif is seen dancing in a club while intoxicated.

The claim is baseless. The woman in the video is not related to the minister.

Claim

An Urdu-language post on X (formerly Twitter), shared on September 1, claims: "Khawaja Asif’s daughter is drinking alcohol and dancing in a club." The post continues, "It was our duty to make this public, while reposting is your duty." The 24-second video shows a woman dancing in a club.

This post has been shared 2,700 times, liked 4,400 times, and viewed over 161,000 times as of this writing.

Identical claims were shared on Facebook too.

Fact

The woman in the video is not Asif’s daughter, according to an independent verification and confirmation from the minister’s family member.

Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Minister of State for Information Technology and niece of Asif, confirmed to Geo Fact Check that the woman in question is not Asif’s daughter. "No, it’s not her," she said over the phone.

Furthermore, Geo Fact Check found that the video was first published on April 5, 2023, by an Instagram user named "Varsha Rao".
