Four family members drown at Manora Beach in Karachi

Victims include husband, wife, woman's sister and brother; bodies of siblings recovered, but man still missing

KARACHI: A tragedy struck a family enjoying picnic at the Manora Beach in the port city when four of their members drowned while swimming in the sea.

The victims included a husband and wife, woman's sister and brother, who had come here on a picnic on Saturday.

Bodies of the three siblings have been retrieved but body of the man, 24-year-old Mustafa Aftab, could not be recovered till filing of the report.

Relatives of Mustafa told Geo News on Sunday that they spent all night at the beach and contacted rescue officials as well, but none showed up again for searching the fourth victim.

A day earlier, Mustafa visited his in-laws from Malir to their home in FB Area's Dastagir neighbourhood, from where six members of the family left for the beach near Hawkesbay, unaware of the misfortune that lied ahead.

The mishap took place when the family was enjoying by the water. Upon receiving reports of the drowning, police and rescue volunteers, including divers, quickly arrived on the scene to conduct search operations.

The three siblings’ bodies were recovered in few hours, but Mustafa’s body has not yet been retrieved. He was the only child to his parents and it had been about one and a half years since he married. He himself had no child.

Following the completion of formalities, the three bodies were returned to the grieving family. They were identified as Hafiza Imam, Saba Imam and Maaz Imam.
