A global animal welfare organisation Four Paws has announced that its elephant experts will soon visit Karachi for shifting of African elephant named Madhubala to the Safari Park.

The experts will be visiting as the work at the Safari Park to create a friendly space for elephants has now reached its final stage, The News reported.

The organisation said in a press statement issued on Tuesday that it marks a significant milestone in the efforts to ensure a safe and secure species-appropriate environment for an African elephant named Madhubala, who will have a chance to be united with her sisters Malika and Sonia.

In the final preparations, the focus now is on completing the landscape of the elephant enclosure at the Safari Park, finalising enrichment features and continuing the necessary training of the three elephants.

It is important to note that the African elephant has been undergoing solitary confinement at Karachi zoo since 2023. She has been facing mental strains due to being kept alone.

Moreover, her companion at Karachi Zoo, the 17-year-old female tusker Noor Jehan died earlier in 2023 due to a prolonged ailment further exacerbated by poor living conditions at the facility.

Right after Noor Jehan's death, the city administration had announced taking measures for Madhubala's relocation to Safari Park due to risks to her health.

Notably, the exact relocation date of the African elephant will be announced in the coming weeks. The Four Paws said it was grateful to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation Mayor Murtaza Wahab for cooperation.

Together, the partners are dedicated to ensuring a smooth and successful relocation of Madhubala and a reunion with her family at the Safari Park, the statement by the organisation read.
