BANNU: Three policemen were martyred and five terrorists were killed as district cops successfully foiled an armed attack on Bannu police lines on Monday.

The police said that the terrorists, in an attempt to sneak into the facility,  started indiscriminate firing. However, the policemen present on the spot eliminated all five terrorists in swift retaliation retaliation.

Soon after the attack all roads around the police line were closed and security was put on high alert.

Reacting to the development, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur appreciated the prompt action by police officials during the attack, and sought a report from the KP police chief.

He expressed grief and sorrow over martyrdom of the policemen, and offered his heartfelt condolences to the families of the martyrs, assuring full support to the bereaved.

Gandapur termed the attack a cowardly act by anti-state elements and reiterated that such cowardly attacks couldn't demoralise the police.

The chief minister paid homage to the sacrifices of policemen for maintaining peace in the province.
