The European Union’s ambassadors in Pakistan advocated for sustainability to protect the environment as they cooked desi food on World Food Day being observed today (Wednesday).
In a video shared on EU’s social media platforms, Head of the Mission German Embassy, Arno Kirchof, Ambassador of Portugal Frederico Silva, Ambassador of Ireland Mary O’Neill and Ambassador of Sweden Alexandra Berg von Linde arrived for lunch hosted by EU Ambassador to Pakistan Riina Kionka and Denmark’s Ambassador to Pakistan Jakob Linulf only to find out that they would have to cook their own food.
The video message continues with the four ambassadors getting caught up in an intense cooking where they make Pakistan’s treasured and famous “daal chawal” served with achaar and roti.
As per The Spruce Eats, the term “food sustainability” means to create food that protects the environment, makes use of provided natural resources, enhancement of life quality for communities that produce food including animals and lastly it the practice ensures that farmers can support themselves.
Greenhouse gas emissions from food production is 26% as per Our World In Data, making food that is sustainable and actually gives back to the society will aid in lowering the emissions.
Food sustainability plays an important role in tracking climate change, reducing water stress, overall pollution, restoration of forest lands and grasslands and the endangered wildlife of the Earth.
