Pakistani-American honoured with prestigious 'One World Award'

Sheikh says award is a great honour and has strengthened his commitment and passion for humanitarian service

HOUSTON: Saeed Sheikh, President of the Houston-Karachi Sister City Association, has been honoured with the prestigious One World Award 2024 for his outstanding philanthropic efforts and exemplary leadership.

Sheikh is the first Pakistani-American and South Asian to receive this award.

The award was presented to him by Susan Young, President of the Sister City Associations, during the annual One World Concert at St Thomas University in Houston.

The event was attended by diplomats from various countries, including Congressman Al Green and renowned businessman Syed Javed Anwar, who all extended their congratulations to Saeed Sheikh on receiving the award.

Congressman Al Green also presented Sheikh with a Congressional Certificate of Recognition, praising his admirable services.

Sheikh has previously been recognised with several awards, including the prestigious Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award, for his remarkable contributions to the community.

In his speech, Congressman Al Green paid tribute to Sheikh’s humanitarian efforts, stating: “Saeed Sheikh is an angel in human form, full of compassion and dedication to serving humanity.”

He further added that although Sheikh migrated from Pakistan to settle in the United States, he has maintained his strong connection to his homeland, faith, language, and culture.

Green emphasised that America believes in unity, not in distinctions of race or colour.

Upon receiving the award, Sheikh expressed his gratitude, stating that the award is a great honour and has strengthened his commitment and passion for humanitarian service.
