LONDON: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif reached London, United Kingdom, on Saturday night — exactly a year after he returned to his home country ending nearly three years of self-imposed exile.

Nawaz, the three-time former prime minister, is visiting the UK for medical treatments.

The seasoned politician received a warm welcome in London from a huge number of PML-N supporters, including the newly appointed president of the party's UK chapter, Ahsan Dar, and others.

A group of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers were also gathered opposite the Avenfield flats and raised slogans against the ruling party's leaders.

As the PML-N chief arrived at his Avenfield flats, workers of both the PML-N and PTI exchanged harsh words against each other.

According to the PML-N, Sharif will stay in London for around three days and will then depart for the United States where he will spend around a week for private meetings.

The party supremo reached Dubai on Friday and spent a night at the home of Hasnain Dar, the younger son of Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar.

The 74-year-old former premier will spend time with his sons in London and undergo medical treatment, a PML-N source told Geo News.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, will also likely travel to London in the first or second week of November and will visit Geneva with her father for a follow-up on her throat surgery at a local clinic.

Nawaz returned to the country in October 2023 after a three-year self-imposed exile in the UK. He briefly landed in Islamabad, where he signed and filed appeals against the convictions for which he was jailed before he left the country in 2019.

After a few hours' stay in the federal capital, the PML-N supremo flew to Lahore to kick-start his party's campaign for the February 8 elections in a rally of thousands of his supporters.

He later went on to run for a seat in the National Assembly during the general elections during which he won polls held on the NA-130 constituency in Lahore against PTI's Yasmin Rashid.
