LAHORE: After being named as caretaker Chief Minister Punjab on Tuesday, senior political analyst Najam Sethi said there was no need to have a big provincial cabinet as the caretaker set up only has to fulfill a limited mandate.
Talking to media persons following his selection for the coveted post by the provincial parliamentary committee, Najam Sethi replying to a question said he was advised by his friends to take up the responsibility he is being entrusted with. “The friends said performing the job of a caretaker Chief Minister is a service to the nation and a non-political task,” he added.
The parliamentary committee tasked to select caretaker CM Punjab has already signed the summary for the appointment of Najam Sethi as the head of provincial caretaker cabinet.
Najam Sethi is likely to take oath of his office at 11:00 AM Wednesday.
To another question, he told the reporters that as caretaker CM he would have a limited role to hold transparent elections and to keep the provincial machinery moving. “We will not be constructing roads and buildings,” he said, “but try as best we can to help the widows, blind and most downtrodden lot of the society’.
