Chitral: Six passengers killed in as jeep falls into ravine

CHITRAL: A roadside accident in the highlands of Chitral left at least six passengers dead and six more serious injured here on Monday, Geo News reported.

According to police sources, the misfortune struck when an ill-fated jeep, on its way to Chitral from Booni, plunged into deep ravine while negotiating a sharp turn in the mountainous region of Baringus.

So terrible was the accident that six of the travelers died as soon as the plunging jeep crashed headlong onto the jagged rocks several hundred feet down under. The emergency responders and locals pulled the injured out of the wreck of the jeep and rushed them to the hospital.

Reckless driving, compromised road-worthiness of the vehicle, and bad road conditions may have caused the accident, the police said.
