FAISALABAD: As the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers and supporters march towards Islamabad for a “do-or-die” protest, police on Sunday confused the wedding convoy with the opposition party's caravans.

“We have nothing to do with the protest, the police had gotten it wrong,” the groom said.

He added that they were misunderstood as part of the PTI caravan with the decorated vehicles on their way to his house.

The police stopped the vehicles of Baratis on Sargodha Road. However, hours later the newly wed couple arrived at the scene to show their wedding card.

Police spokesperson had earlier claimed that law enforcement personnel stationed on Sargodha Road “foiled” the PTI workers' attempt to sneak through the picket by posing as part of a wedding procession consisting of eight luxury SUVs.

The spokesperson had said police halted the vehicles and checked the identities of the passengers.

Moreover, former leader of the party, Sadaqat Ali Abbasi has been arrested from the Faizabad interchange.

It was reported that Abbasi was put in a prison van by the police with the leader saying that he had nothing to do with the protest and was going home.

Meanwhile, in an interesting turn of events, Information Minister Ataullah Tarar has said “Many people are voluntarily offering arrests”.

The minister added that the PTI members approached the administration and asked them to “arrest us”.
