Cher recently dished out interesting details about her documented name, saying that there was a birth certificate mix-up in the hospital at the time of her birth.
As reported by MailOnline, the Goddess of Pop revealed it in her new memoir Cher: The Memoir, Part One.
The music icon revealed in the memoir that she used to believe her name was Cherilyn for many years before she went to legally change it to her byname Cher.
The 78-year-old singer then learned that her real actual name was Cheryl instead of Cherilyn .
According to the Believe singer, she was was surprised when she discovered her name was Cheryl.
“I believed Cherilyn was my name until the day years later when I decided to legally change my name to simply Cher,” the After All hitmaker added.
Cher then revealed the reason behind the mix-up and said that it happened at the hospital when her mother, who was just 19 at the time, went into labour a month earlier than her due date.
She said that when her mother was recovering after giving birth, a nurse asked for her name and it was then the misunderstanding occurred.
The Grammy winner went to legally change her full name to Cher in the late '70s.
