Chad Micheal Murray has reportedly decided against participating in the upcoming One Tree Hill sequel, citing a reluctance to work with his ex-wife and former co-star, Sophia Bush.
Bush and fellow castmate, Hilarie Burton, announced in August that a new iteration of the hit series is in development for Netflix, with the duo serving as executive producers.
However, sources claim Murray has no interest in joining the project, given his strained history with Bush following their acrimonious 2005 divorce.
According to Daily Mail, “There’s no love lost between Chad and Sophia. They’ve both moved on in their personal lives, but Chad has no desire to reunite with her professionally. With her producer credit, she’d effectively be his boss, and no amount of money could convince him to return.”
When asked about the sequel during the promotion of his recent Netflix Christmas movie, Murray offered little clarity by stating, “I really want some iteration of this show to come back for the fans. Whatever comes forward, I’m excited for them.”
Additionally, he later told The Hollywood Reporter that he hadn’t been contacted about the new series.
Murray and Bush started dating in 2003 and got married in 2005, however, they separated just five months later amid rumors of infidelity involving Murray and his House Of Wax co-star Paris Hilton.
Bush sought an annulment, citing fraud, but the divorce was finalized in 2006, as per the publication.
In recent years, Murray and Bush have publicly clashed over their brief marriage as back in 2018, Bush sparked controversy by describing their union as a mistake under pressure at a young age, as per the outlet.
