People often assume that Samuel L. Jackson is an Oscar winner due to his illustrious career, but in reality, the actor has only been nominated once.
Jackson’s new film The Piano Lesson could earn him an Oscar nomination, but the Pulp Fiction star says it’s an honor only if he wins this time around.
During an interview with AP, Jackson said, "We've been in the business long enough to know that, you know, the folks who go, 'Well, it's just an honor to be nominated.' No it ain't. It's an honor to win."
He continued: "You know, you get nominated, folks go, 'Yeah, yeah, I remember that. Most people forget, you know. Generally, it's a contest you didn't volunteer to be in. I didn't go in there so I could flex, like, 'Well, wait a minute. Let me do my scene then! Hold up!'"
The Glass star then argued that "people have a hard time remembering who even won."
Jackson received his only Oscar nomination in the category of Best Supporting Actor for his memorable performance as Jules Winnfield in Pulp Fiction. He went on to receive an Academy Honorary Award in 2021 which hailed his work as a "cultural icon whose dynamic work has resonated across genres and generations and audiences worldwide."
In The Piano Lesson, Samuel L. Jackson plays Doaker Charles, a father of two children who fight over the fate of an heirloom piano during the Great Depression.
