Education Minister Siddiqui inaugurates Hyderabad's first public degree-awarding institution

MQM-P chairman says it took more than 70 years for people of Hyderabad to get degree awarding public institution

Hyderabad gets its much awaited degree awarding public institution, Hyderabad Institute for Technology and Management Sciences. 

In a ceremony, held on Wednesday in Kohsar, Hyderabad, Federal Minister for Education and chairman Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-Pakistan) Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui inaugurated the institution.

The establishment of degree awarding public institution had been long awaited promise by MQM-P to it voters in Hyderabad which was ultimately delivered to the people of Hyderabad today.

Siddiqui during his speech said that this is a historical moment and mentioned that it took more than 70 years for people of Hyderabad to get a degree awarding public institution. He added that unfortunately a public university was a right of people of Hyderabad, however it turned into a demand of people and then a long distant dream but here we are at the university's inauguration.

He also said that due to constitutional complications, this institute cannot be officially called as university but it will only be called as institution, however it will be a degree awarding institution, offering two courses at the moment BS in Computer Science and Software engineering.

Talking about advancement in technology, Siddiqui mentioned that we should focus and emphasize on artificial intelligence and bio technology in order to keep up with the world that is quickly adapting new technologies.

MQM-P had been vocal about establishing a degree awarding public university in Hyderabad and kept bringing up to several former government. It was one of the major demands from MQM-P when it joined Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI)'s coalition government in 2018 however the promise remained unfulfilled. Finally, MQM-P being part of the coalition of PML-N led federal government had managed to fulfilled its long awaited promised to the people of Hyderabad.

The Federal Ministry of Education is also consistently working to bring campuses of several federally operated universities to the city of Karachi. 

A few weeks ago, minister Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui inaugurated the opening of the Karachi chapter of Pakistan Insititute of Fashion and Design (PIFD), where he announced that several campuses of universities are in pipeline for their campuses to be opened in Karachi.
