Oscar winner Christopher Nolan breaks silence on ‘Dune: Part 2'

Christopher Nolan, the director of Interstellar and Oppenheimer, recently raved about Dune: Part 2.

In his interview with Deadline, Nolan, the two-time Oscar winner, called Dune: Part Two “a miraculous job of adaptation,” praising how it completes Denis Villeneuve’s two-part film of Frank Herbert’s 1965 sci-fi novel.

The 54-year-old director said, “Taking the second half and making an incredible conclusion to the story. What a remarkable piece of work.”

“If, to me, Dune was like Star Wars, then Dune 2 is The Empire Strikes Back, which is my favorite Star Wars film. I think it’s just a great expansion of all that was introduced in the first one,” he added.

Nolan was struck “by the sense of immersion in that world.” and continued, “It’s a film that has so many unique images, so many things you’ve never seen before in this movie, time after time, and I was so struck by the detail of everything.”

For the unversed, David Lynch adapted Herbert’s Dune for a 1984 space opera, while Denis Villeneuve later returned to the book for his movies Dune (2021) and Dune: Part Two (2023).

The first movie won six Oscars, and together the two movies made $1.12 billion worldwide.

It is significant to mention that the franchise also inspired the prequel series Dune: Prophecy, which recently started airing with new episodes that come out every Sunday at 9 p.m. ET/PT on HBO and stream on Max.
