Jennifer Lopez revealed that the musical Kiss of the Spider Woman was one of the "most challenging role and rewarding roles" she has ever done.
In a recent chat with Variety’s Awards Circuit podcast, the 55-year-old actress opened up about her role in the adaptation of the 1993 Broadway musical.
“It’s probably the most challenging and rewarding role I’ve ever had,” Lopez said during the podcast. “It’s about love, acceptance, and finding beauty in the darkness. I think those themes are so relevant right now.”
The Atlas star gushed over working with the composer of the Tony Award-winning show, John Kander.
“John Kander was in the studio with me when I recorded my songs,” she noted. “He’s 97 years old and still so full of life. Hearing him say, ‘I’ve never heard this song sung better’ — it was one of the best moments of my career.”
In Bill Condon's written and directed musical, the On The Floor singer played the character of a woman named Aurora, who embarrassed the role of Spider-woman.
“It’s a dark story, but also one about love and survival — about helping each other through hard times,” Lopez shared details of the character created by Luis Molina. “I think that’s a message we really need right now.”
