Prince's music inspiration unveiled: 'I crave great musicianship'

The hero behind Prince’s inspirations may have just been unveiled!

Underneath his mysterious onstage persona and classic, original music, it has remained quite difficult to grasp if the legendary musician was even admiring someone of his field in the first place.

Despite having a guise not many got see through, Prince was able to inspire generations of musicians and the industry itself, however, it may just be safe to say that not many have come close to mastering the courageous expression he delivered through his music.

With many artists, its easy to point out their primary influences in music, refreshingly, for Prince Rogers Nelson, that was not the case.

“I haven’t had a lot of time to develop a favourite artist. I try not to listen to too many people. It’s distracting,” he once mentioned, as per Far Out magazine.

Even though, the When Doves Cry crooner stated this, there have been rare instances where he has mentioned the singers he used to listen to.

As a teenager, Prince idealized Joni Mitchell, however, any interpolation or inspiration of the latter cannot be heard in the Kiss singer’s tracks.

In another rare statement, Prince mentioned the one attribute that makes him listen to an artist, saying, “I crave great musicianship, and I don’t care who provides it.”

“I’ve got no problems saying I dig D’Angelo. Or some of the things that Björk does…the Cocteau Twins…musicians, we’re family. I hope young musicians learn from me — my mistakes too — the way I learned,” he further noted, mentioning the names of a few musicians.
