Serena Williams has addressed rumors that she bleaches her skin, calling out the “haters” who spread such claims.

In an Instagram live on December 2, the 43-year-old tennis legend responded to allegations that she had altered her complexion after sharing a video of herself at a school event with her husband Alexis Ohanian, and their two daughters Olympia and Adira.

During a makeup tutorial for her Wyn Beauty brand, Williams had the opportunity to clear up the rumors.

In regards to this, she said while applying makeup, “I do not bleach my skin. There is a thing called sunlight, and in that sunlight, you get different colors.”

Moreover, Williams explained that the video, which went viral in late November, was filmed while she was volunteering at her daughter’s play and wearing “stage makeup.”

Meanwhile, she expressed frustrations with those questioning her appearance by stating, “I’m a dark, Black woman, and I love who I am, and I love how I look.”

Additionally, the 23-time Grand Slam champion clarified that while she respects others’ choices, skin lightening is not something she is interested in.

Furthermore, she added, “If people do it, that’s their thing, and they have every opportunity to do so. I don’t judge, but you guys do. But no, I actually don’t bleach my skin, so can we just kinda clear that up?”

According to Daily Mail, Williams has been open about cosmetic procedures she has had in the past, including a radio frequency treatment she shared in June for tightening her stomach.

Despite the attention surrounding her appearance, she emphasized that she is proud of her natural beauty and remains confident in her identity.
